I have a Craftsman Chain saw model 917.353730. Any idea where I can get parts. It is about 30 years old. Or do you know who manufactured these?

Sears still sells parts for this saw. CRAFTSMAN | Model #917353730 | CRAFTMAN 3.7 CHAIN SAW OR 3.7PS CHAIN SAW | SearsPartsDirect.com (http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?modelNumber=917.353730&pop=flush)

I also have a Craftsman 917.353730 that is approximately 30 years old. Runs great. Just broke the trottle linkage and Sears PartDirect says the part is discontinued. I hate to throw the saw away because I can't find a part?? Any Ideas?

I found a saw and got some parts off it for mine. Will see if the owner has a linkage.

Most throttle linkage parts can be jury rigged by someone with a few skills. Can you post a picture of your broken part?

I bought that saw new in probably 1978. No telling how much wood it has cut. The throttle link broke on mine years ago. I ordered a replacement and while I was waiting on it I made one out of a heavy-duty coat hanger, installed it, and have used it for 25 years or so since. I still have the one I ordered, never used. If you have the broken link you can kind of follow it in making a replacement. If not it's probably going to be a pretty challenging job because the space between the throttle shaft and the trigger is anything but a straight line. As for finding parts, if you can get anything out of Sears your way ahead of me. I decided I wanted to rebuild the carburetor so I took it apart and found the tiny little number it had printed on it. None of the small engine parts houses in Tulsa could cross reference it in to any of their parts lists. I finally found a place in Maryland at Jack's Small Engines[http://www.jackssmallengines.com] that had a listing for a kit. I ordered it; installed it; works great. Also, I have been told Roper Industries, which made all sorts of stuff including appliances, made the saw. Roper got bought out in the 80’s and the new owners didn’t want to mess with the saws so that’s when the parts disappeared. I’ve considered buying a new saw but they brag about a 45cc engine when 3.7ci equals about 60cc. I can’t get that impressed. I just used mine taking down a tree that was probably 30” in diameter that lightening had struck. It just mowed through it. If you are interested in the throttle link I have, let me know. The original design was probably pretty weak so I’m not sure it would last if you put it in. If you don’t have one and want to make one I can email you some detail pictures of it so you can at least see what it’s supposed to look like. And if you ever get fed up with your saw, I’d be interested in trying to get it from you.

Oklahoma1, Thanks for responding with all the good information. I thought about trying to fabricate one out of a coat hanger like you did. However, I don't have the entire linkage to make a replacement and didn't realize it fit in the space between the throttle shaft. Any help would be great. I'll buy yours, pay shipping both ways to copy yours, or pictures. [email protected]
