Earlier today I received an e-mail from MSN Hotmail (?)... Stating that Hotmail was to run a clean-up process whereas they were going to wipe out any and every Hotmail account not registered to the e-mail I had just received. In this e-mail they asked for username, password and date of birth. I had heard from a good friend (Network Administrator) recently. That Hotmail was getting overloaded and that he thought this would eventually take MSN Hotmail to perform a clean-up process, so I hit reply and filled out the form. Now I just tried to get into my Hotmail account and I completely blocked out.

Any suggestions besides open a new account? My main address book is stored in my MSN Hotmail account! Uffffffffff... This is so aggravating!!

This is a total SCAM!!
Do NOT respond to it at all.
If this where genuine then they wouldn't be asking for your password or any other personal information.

I'm sorry to say but you have been well and truly suckered here.

See if this helps

You might have to make a new account to get to this

To contact Hotmail Customer Service:

* Log in to Hotmail - ideally with the account you have a question on, but any account will do.
* Click on Help, in the upper right corner of the Hotmail page.
* Click on View other Help suggestions or contact us near the bottom of the left hand side of the resulting page.
* Select Other - Contact MSN Hotmail in the Category drop-down list.
* Fill out the contact form.

Hope this helps

I can't believe a network administrator would believe this scam. NO e-mail service would EVER ask you to do this.

If Hotmail wanted to purge inactive accounts, they would send an e-mail to the account or associated accounts telling you to log on and use the account. They would never direct you to a site to fill in a form.

So what you did was give someone your password. And they hijacked your account. The odds are slim that you will get it back. Try what seahwk suggested, but I don't have a lot of hope. But maybe you learned a lesson.
