I've got a few pieces of jewelry I need appraised. A diamond necklace, a jade necklace, and a pearl necklace. I've never gotten anything appraised. Can I just walk into a jewelry store (a nice one) and ask them to appraise it for me? Or do I go to a jewel appraiser for this? What do they usually charge for an appraisal? And how do I find a good one? I live in Atlanta.
Thanks,

Some jewelers do appraisals for free, as an enticement to get you in the store. Others charge for their time.

Here are the jewelers in your area that do appraisals. atlanta ga jewelry appraisals - Google Maps (http://maps.google.com/maps?rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=ie7&rlz=1I7GGLD&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=atlanta+ga+jewelry+appraisals&fb=1&split=1&gl=us&view=text&ei=_oClSdyEMNKgtwe01_TMBA&sa=X&oi=local_group&resnum=1&ct=more-results&cd=1)

I needed updated appraisals for insurance purposes and paid between $35 and $65 per item for a written appraisal.

As it happened one custom necklace had to go back to the jewelry who created it because another jeweler could not or would not give an estimate including the cost of recreating the mold (or whatever it is the original jeweler used) and could only give me the value of the item as it existed, not replacement value.
