I have a 3 month year old cockapoo and she has blood in its stool. What should I do? :confused:

You've posted this in the "human" category when it should have been posted in the "dogs" category.

But the answer to your question is the dog possibly has hookworms. A trip to the vet and deworming is in order and your dog will be just fine. Don't let this condition linger as it will result in the ultimate death of your pet or the emergence of the dog being lethargic until the dog does die. The hookworms actually embed themselves into the lining of the dog's intestines and suck the blood from the animal from the inside.

As a breeder of 25 years it has been my experience that a puppy can have blood showing up in the stool for several reasons, diaherra, constipation, parasites and other reasons that are more complicated.

The lining of the dogs rectal area is a mucous membrane and very sensitive to irritation be way or loose stools or the opposite, hard stool. If you have a puppy (you state a 3 month ? Year? In your question so I am not sure if we have a pup or adult) then streaks can happen with either situation, which can be food related, parasitic, or dis-sease, and no matter what before ruling either or any of the above, you should take a stool sample to the vet and have it check for parasites such as the many varieties of worms that can invade depening on where you live. Also we can have streaks, streaks with mucous, bright red small pools of blood, dark blood, all mean something different.

Ruling out one thing at a time and the most serious first, generally if this is food related a change in diet or an additive to the diet can correct it.

Firstly though get your poop checked, and you can go from there, and just my experiences from the past with situations like this.
