Hi. I have a huge amount of credit card debt that I am realising that its going to take me a long time to get out of. I am able to make the minimum payments but I want to see an end in sight. I made this debt and I want to be responsible for getting it paid. I do NOT want to file bankruptcy. I have always been the one to do the bills and I recently told my husband how bad it had gotten. He knew we had debt but did not realise how bad. I was not hiding it just managing it until I just really stressed. He began to look at different debt management companies but I am very nervous of someone telling me to give them all my information and they will have me out of debt in 54 months and it will not effect my credit. Like I said I want to pay back all we owe but do NOT want to hurt my credit in the long run. Any suggestions of good companies and keeping my credit in tack and seeing an end in sight?

Have you tried speaking to the credit companies directly and asking about their debt management programs? Essentially this is what credit counseling companies do. It does not have a large long term affect on your credit since the bills are paid. It will close the account, however. But that is a good thing.

That was going to be my next step. I would LOVE them to close the accounts! That would not hurt my feelings at all :) Thanks for the help.
