People keep saying that the solution to relationship problems is seeking professional counsel. I can't afford even $50 a hour. (Not that you could find a good one for that.) There has to be another way. Any ideas? Church isn't one. He won't go there.

There are free services here, if you are near the campus:
University of North Texas Dallas Campus : UNT Dallas Campus offers free counseling services for students, community (http://www.unt.edu/unt-dallas/news/2007/counseling.htm)
This is offered to anyone.
You might want to consider going on your own if he won't go.
Also, there are professional counsellors here too, if you want to share a little more, perhaps you'd get some good advice.

Every state in the US that I know of have services provided according to income And you get very good professional people.
Also there are many religious couselors ( if you are a religious person) that offers a sliding scale according to your income levels.
Often the problem is that one side or the other does not like what the counselor has to say.
