Our dishwasher works and drains fine when it's running a cycle. When it is off, however, and the sink faucet is on and running water, the dishwasher fills up . It seems as if the sink is draining at least partially into the dishwasher. Any ideas?

If it has a long enough hose loop it higher than the kitchen drain. If not get a item called a air gap and install it on the drain line. Follow the directions for install.
