I have a Bryan 395cav04291 series e gas furnace.

Recently the blower motor will not blow. It sounds like it is getting power as I hear it humming, and then you can smell a melting plastic smell. If you power the furnace off and back on it kicks right in. I have pulled the blower out to clean it and check for obstructions and inspect bearings and they all seemed fine, Unfortunately I did not check for a code before I opened up the furnace and cleared it. Any ideas on where to go now?

Try moving the fan selection on the thermostat from automatic to ON and see if the blower comes on and stays running.

What you describe sounds like one of two possibilities: either the blower motor or the circuit board is failing. If you feel comfortable doing so, try this: Next time you hear the motor humming, but not running, carefully check for overheating by feeling the motor. Set thermostat fan selector to "ON" position, remove blower access panel, give blower wheel a spin, and press interlock switch - does blower start/run? Leave thermostat fan selector set to "ON" position - will fan run continuously without problems? If so, the motor is likely failing, losing starting capability. Run continuously for interim (until you have it replaced). If above doesn't pan out, turn off power, dismount the circuit board (no need to disconnect any wires), and inspect the back for evidence of burned circuit paths or solder joints.
