I came to usa onmay 21st,if I file tax from June 2006 to dec2006 total-7months@32200/-(4600 permonth gross). According to virginia tax I pay 33% ie) nearly1500 permonth nearly 10,000 for 7months,so if I file in march 2007,I am having dependents(wife on h4 not working&son 5months age) coming in oct2006.. so if I claim tax how much will I get back...

II doubt
And my friends going to start work from september1st who came in may.2006
He is also having the same problem.. its same as my salary, same state, having a wife and a kid of 1year came to usa as dependents...

Note:: at last how much he will get tax returns out of $6000 taxes paid
How much I get tax return out of $10,000taxes paid...

If your wife comes in October 2006, you will need to wait until April before you can file, as your wife has to be in country for 183 days to to choose to be treated as a resident alien.

That said, figuring out your tax liability is simple math.

Medicare is 1.45% of your pay, so your Medicare tax liability is $32,200 x .0145 = $467.

Social Security is 6.2% of your pay, so your Social Security tax liability is $32,200 x .062 = $1,996.

Your federal income tax liability will be about $1,265, assuming your will file jointly with your wife and claim your son as a dependent. This also assumes that the income earned in the United States is the ONLY income taxed. Unfortunately, if you file as a resident alien (which is the way that gives you the most tax deductions), the U.S. taxes ALL of your world-wide income earned in 2006.

You will owe Virginia about $1,093.
