First off I live in Washington state. My fiancee's daughters mother is in jail and I went and visited her today and she thinks it would be a good idea to sign over custody right now. There's only two problems, I don't know how to start this (and I need to register her for school in just a couple weeks), and my fiancée isn't her legal father. Another man signed the paternity affidavit when she was born but she knows my fiancée as daddy. They are both possibly the father and she is 5 years old. If any one can tell me how to get the process started and also if anyone knows if her mother signing a piece of paper saying we have custody will be good enough for the schools please let me know. Thank you

It will take an attorney and filing for a DNA test to prove who is the father,
If both father and mother ( legal) will sign over temp custody but you will need an attorney
