My girlfriend is trying to move out on her own, an she is having a problem due to her stupid, past legal problems. In 1999, she plead guilty to possession with intent to sell, she says that she took te rap for everyone and that's why the charged her with "intent to sell," but that really doesn't matter. Anyway, so she is getting turned down from any semi-decent apartment in a decent neighborhood. She is now a single-mother, going to school, has good credit, and is in the process of having her record "pardoned." The apartment complexes have stated that even with a "pardon" she is still unable to get approved for any place. Is this legal or is this discrimination? If so, is there anything that she can do so she won't have to live in a questionable neighborhood? I would sign but my credit is shot. Please help, her current situation with her grandparents is very unhealthy. Thanks for any advice you may have. -Nick

Once the pardon goes through she should be fine. Just don't go back to the places that have already turned her down.

You don't get your record pardoned. Even if the record is expunged the Police will be able to see the past history.

After she gets the expungement then she should apply again.
