View Full Version : Lyrics to led Zeppelin played in revers. Are they evil?

Tell me if the Song by Led- Zeppelin is Evil? Apparently if you play it in revers it will yield satanic lyrics? Sounds like some one is satanic, or maybe they have way too much time on their hands to be playing it backwards to find "evil" lyrics.
Since christianity is so closely tied to this type of thing, heaven/ hell, GOD/ Satan, Good Vs. Evil, I figured who better to ask then christians.

Here are the actaul words... :

There's a lady who's sure
All that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
When she gets there she knows
If the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for
And she's buying a stairway to heaven

There's a sign on the wall
But she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings
In a tree by the brook
There's a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven
It makes me wonder

There's a feeling I get
When I look to the west
And my spirit is crying for leaving
In my thoughts I have seen
Rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those who stand looking
And it makes me wonder

And it's whispered that soon
If we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason
And a new day will dawn
For those who stand long
And the forest will echo with laughter

If there's a bustle in your hedgerow
Don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May queen
Yes there are two paths you can go by
But in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on
And it makes me wonder

Your head is humming and it won't go
In case you don't know
The piper's calling you to join him
Dear lady can you hear the wind blow
And did you know
Your stairway lies on the whisperin' wind

And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our souls
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll

And she's buying a stairway to heaven...

There you have it. Any one find anything evil about it?? Or a satanic message? Or if you like this song, tell me why you see that, or dislike that's fine too.

Peace and kindness be with you.

Ugh... I loathe that song. Personal choice though, I don't see it as especially evil. I just think it is stupid. I know, I know. I'm so not cool.

Ok, you guys are about the most passionate about GOD, and Satan. IF you tell me you are a believer in the BIBLE and are passionate about GOD but not SATAN, you better have a freeking good explanation. Passion is neuteral, swinging from good to bad.

Nestorian - you have to be joking, right? No one owes you a "freeking good explanation." What's going on with the attitude? Did you talk to someone the other day or recently who was claiming to be a Christian and he/she pissed you off?

I'm just trying to understand where that anger and hostility is coming from. Maybe once I know that, I may answer your question but dude, seriously, you need to chill out.

Fair enough, I know what youmean, and yes this is all stupid. And yes, i did talk to some christians, I guess I let my anger finnaly get the best of me. It's bin awhile. I'm usually quite level headed. Sorry dudes.

Nestorian - wow, I must say that I am rather happy to see someone with such humility. If you want to discuss your question a little, I guess I'd be happy to but I'd much rather see if you'd like to discuss something from the bible. Perhaps something you heard from Christians has struck a nerve with you and your anger is just a manifestation of something more profound... like an anger towards God, for example. I don't know; I'm not making any claim to be "all-knowing" but I'm just speculating.

Sincerely.

Haha, well I guess emotions do get people to do stupid things eh?/ Sorry guys I never meant for that. Though I was totally cheesed off, I should have handled me self better, I'm much wiser than that. Mind you, we are only human, can't be calm cool and perfect all the time.
Thank you for pointing that out Jakester/classyT.

Ok, so some real unpleasent people were telling me, as they are christians, that GOD is this and that, and I didn't feel anything about it. I said something from The song, "All are one, and one is all" they deffinaltly didn't like that, and started telling me that it was a satanic song and that to listen to it backwords would corupt my soul. I tried to tell them that's not very wise and I'm not going to play it backwords it sounds better and is meant to be played forwards. Gerrr on them.

They annoyed me more then any one I had ever met. II was just sitting with a friend who was in a class with them, well he didn't like it either but didn't want to get into it. I think they were talking about The father the son and the holy spirit, trinity or what eve.

So that's why, I said people better have a good reason, because I was prepared to show them that they see what they want to see. Thus making them, the one's who want to see evil. You know what I mean. We can choose to see a rock, or a steping stone, or something to bash some one in the head with. The reality is, it is one, and all. A rock that can serve any one of those. How you choose to see it is up to you, not the song.

At any rate, I'm ashamed to say I let such a ridiculous thing get to me. I shall practice my awareness of Presence of self. Again sorry for the none-senes. I think the only reason it really fased me is because when ever I feel depressed or suicidal, I listen to it and feel calm. Haha, maybe I should try listening to it when I'm agnery to eh? Haha. Silly boy that I am, OK so does that clearify?

Peace and kindness be with you.

Nestorian - no worries, mate... you have already apologized and I for one get heated under the collar more often that I care to admit and yes, unfortunately, that is part of being human.

You know, I see something in what you said. I think that what made you so upset with these people you encountered was that they had said something negative about something that has very deep emotional ties to you... I mean, if one song has the power to affect your mood in the way this song does for you, then when someone comes along and tells you the song is evil, your knee-jerk response is anger. Why, because you feel these people are being stupid and you are outraged at public displays of stupidity? No. You are upset because of the emotional attachment you have to the song and at the people who criticized something that you obviously have strong feelings toward.

Well, all of that is understandable. However, if you can step back from the emotion at any point and consider the statement that was made concerning the song, your objectiveness could help to understand the point they were trying to make. They may or may not have a point but if you are unwilling to hear them because of how you feel about the song, whether what they said has any merit or not will never be relevant to you.

My opinion ( and I am going to sound like my MOM ugh) is compared to the songs today the songs in the 70's are child's play. I know there were so called evil things is some of the popular music back in the day and very suggestive too. But what the lyrics suggested in the 70's they come right out and SAY today in explicit detail. ( oh man I sound like a fuddy duddy) But it is true.

I listen to all kinds of music. This particular song I always thought made no sense unless you smoked a doobie.

People always have opinions on music and I am not legalistic in this area. If I liked it and the song was catchy and NOT downright filthy and shameful.. I listen to it. ( yes, Even afternoon delight.. loll) christians can get so stuffy sometimes. Don't let them get you down. Sometimes it is just personal choice or a way for them to somehow feel holier because they only listen to christian music. So, that's my take.

Jakester, classy T.

Indeed you are both right. Jakester for recognising my anger for what it was, and that it was a deeper reasoning behind it, and that I need to take a step back form my emotions to truly appericiate the situation, and handle it better.
People are entitled to their opinions, I'd usually handle such things better, and let them play the part of the fool, But they got me this time. It's a good thing there's still time to change the road your on." Eh? :)
ClassyT, yes the suggestive music of the past, for me at least was interesting. Now they dont' cover it up, or have any real heart to it. Some do, but for the most part it's rather same old same old. You know?? This song is like a story, and a ridle. Led-Zepplin makes many refrences to Lord of the rings, especialy in Battle of evermore (which is apparently about the battle for middle earth, or Minus Tirith.), and Ramble on. I am fairly sure they make more references to it, but I can not recall for sure.
Even the verse that says,
"There's a feeling I get
When I look to the west
And my spirit is crying for leaving
In my thoughts I have seen
Rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those who stand looking
And it makes me wonder"
It's spose to be about Frodo, looking back to the life he left, to face this impending doom, or Souron.
There are references to other stories and flok lore in Zepplin songs. IT all seems rather mystical and profound. Some time yes it may seem to make more sense if you are stoned, but for me it means more and makes more sense when i'm not stoned.
For me, Stairway is a song of hope new beginings. The reference of the "May Queen" has to do with a girl becoming a women. The women trying to buy the stairway to heaven but she can't, because it's not something you buy.

The song is a song, regardless of what it means. It is up to each individual to choose what it means to them. Indeed...

Thanks guys. Sorry if I rambled got a few things on the go...

Peace and Kindness to you.

Ok, so I'm totally going to cross a line, take no offence, we all have the capacity to percive things one way or another, and to make choices baised upon those perceptions.

To my point, what if you see the song as whiney because you are only looking at that part of the song, and not the rest. OR at least ignoring the importance of the rest. Especially at the end, I mean it picks up and states, "To be a Rock and not to roll." In other words unyielding/ strong, giving a person hope, no?

I've bin asked onece by a friend, "Did you ever think that the reason you seem to think things are what they are, is becuase you are reflecting your own feelings?" for example, Some one says, "Look at that shirt it's so stupid, why would some one wear that ugly thing?" You imeadiatly get angery and turn to face them, or maybe you cower and hide thinking you are being put down, when really they are just talking to a friend about their friends shirt, but they are kidding. So you, are refelcting your own insecurities, upon the events happening around you. If you were that kind of person, different people react to different things in different eh?
Maybe, you fear that you will seem whiney if you listen to "stairway to heaven" or songs of the like. Eh?

Just a thought, there are other things I'd go into but I haven't quite figured them out and how they tie into this idea.

Now remember I'm not saying you are or are not anything, but just curious why you think the song is whiney, as aposed to simply me assuming why. If that makes any sense on my be half?

Peace

Not so much.:o The only thing I liked was that the animation reminded me of my daughter. I'm very curious as to why you thought I would like this video/song. I haven't listened to the 2nd song because the 1st one was so long, I just couldn't chance it.

Stairway to heaven is just so forlorn. :( More like fooorrrrrlooooorrrrnnnnn.:It is so slow and it sounds like something that hippies would sit around on the floor in a circle getting stoned to.
It has that draggy drawn out sound.

Fiar enough, but you did just associate something negative with the song, though a lot of stoners and "hipies" may listen to this kind of music, that's not apart of the song, its apart of your conscious emotional assumptions. (Don't take it personal, every one does even me, and I'm usually really aware of it.) So far the only reasons you don like it are that it's long, slow, and doesn't seem to make any sense. Or was that the ClassT? At any rate all very valid, other than the Hippy thing, because not all hippies like this song, and not every one who listens to it is a hippy. They are two different things but yes I get that it's a song that seems out there. For me that's the magic of it, the mystery. IT tells a tail that we all live, and its like a story, and at the end its all about percevering to Happyness... No totally of my rocker? Haha.

At any rate, I figured you'd like the sped up song better. I found it to be absolutely up lifting, with a lot of power, both stiarway, and Escapest. Also Amaranth, yes it is long, but you could just skip to the middle and not listen to the whole thing. Alow yourself to get into the heart of it, then go back over it, once you got a feel for it.

What about, Mysty mountain hop by Zep? Have yo heard that?

Ok, try this one, it's older, way more up beat, and super hapy.

LOL LOL.. enjoyed that anaylsis. I'm not whiney. OK, I hate the song because there was a girl in my high school that... well lets just say there was no love loss between us. IN gym class she tells a group us girls that her "older" boyfriend played this song on the guitar and sang it and she cried. Ok.. that did it for me. I mean come on... it was too corny for me. It turned me against the song then later when my stepson tried to get me to listen to it I didn't get it.. it was STILL stupid. His mother cries when she hears it... I try people I really do but I think it is dumb and not sad. I can't muster up one tear!! Give me Desperato to cry to anyday... ( I'm not nuts about that song either) BUT at least I get it!

Back in the day, 10th grade, 1974-5, that song was so "emo".
Emo wasn't a term we used back then but we knew the type.
Irked me to pieces. Draggy, depressing, dark, dreary, all those D words.

You can't hate a song, hate is such a strong word, why not 'dislike' it instead :)

Goths were not even "invented "yet in the 70s at my school. Punk came in around 1978-79.

My 21 yr. old daughter is sitting here with me and she ask me what cliques we had. There were not nearly as many as today's high schools. There were the jocks, the snobs, and then the rest of us. Late 70's I was your Fri-Sat night disco girl.
In the early 80's I was a "prep". Late 80's I became a mother and I guess that was a clique all in it's self.
