I have a 9 week old puppy I bought a week ago from a breeder. I have been trying the crate method of potty training. His crate is very smally only enough room to sit, lay down and turn around in. WHen we first put him in there he barked and wined non stop for hours, but now it seems he is getting use to it because he will only wine or bark for a few minutes at the most. However, he seems to like it a little too much because he is peeing and pooping in the crate. I take him out 15-20 minutes after he eats and he does nothing. I have stood outside with him for an hour waiting on him to eliminate and nothing happened, but less than 5 minutes after returning inside he eliminated! He has done this several times. He will sniff around for a while when he is outside. I have even taken his poo outside and placed it on the ground to make a scent post. His instincts to keep his bed clean certainly aren't working. I have cleaned the crate with an odor killer.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks :)

Hi there,

Because your pup is so young, you have to remind him constantly when outside to go to the washroom. Try using words like "go pee" or "do duty".

This may take a while. It took me two months to train my pup. Maybe try putting your pup in one spot when you take her outside, and then say go pee. And don't let her move till she goes pee. Don't be too aggressive obviously.

Most of all, remember that puppy's have to go to the washroom every 30 to 40 minutes, until they get the hang of it. After eating, after playing, and definetely right after waking up from a nap.

HOpe this helps!
