What rights does the birth mother have in relation to a child given up for adoption?

When a birth mother gives up her baby to adoption, and that child is adopted, then the birth mother is reliniquishing her rights. Plain and simple.

As far as their rights to the child they adopted? Full rights, just as if they have given birth to the child themselves.

Why are you asking?

I'm curious as to why you are asking also. In most adoptions the biological parent relinquish their rights in favor of the adoptive parents. The adoptive parents assume all rights and responsibilities as the legal parents and the bio parents no longer have any rights. That's what adoption means.

There are, what is referred to as open adoptions. This is where the adoptive parents allow one or both of the bio parents to continue to be a part of the child's life, so they can visit and be know to the child. In such a case, the bio parents rights would be spelled out in the adoption agreement.
