I live in Florida and currently have a case open for contempt of Child support and a petition to terminate the father's rights based on abandonment. He had retained an attorney in the past but has informed me today that he has ceased retaining the attorney as of 2/18/09. He claims that he is coming to Fl to produce paperwork from his employer stating how much he makes. I have several reasons to believe that the letter and whatever paperwork he is bring with him is rigged. He has made it very clear that he wants to relinqush his parental rights but doesn't want to pay the rear child support amount. He also mentioned that he can only afford to pay 125.00 a month because he has another family he has to support. I am not asking for future monetary support of my children, just what he already owes them. CAn anyone gimme some insight on this situation.

Thanks Melissa

YOU need a lawyer. Giving up parental rights (unless your husband is adopting) does NOT necessarily mean that he gets out of his parental obligations (child support).

And that's if a judge even allows it to happen.
