Believe it or not in Houston today we got up to 85 degrees!! We have a Train XE 1100. I turned the thermostat on to cool. AC Kicked in... we have fan blowing air through the house, but no cold air.

Outside at the unit the top fan is turning... but the hose that sends the cold air into the house it not cold at all??

I have a mulitmeter and I am just maybe handy enough to fix it. Ideas?:confused:

OK,, take that multi meter and see if the compressor is running,, but if you can`t you should be able to turn off power to a/c and while standing very close with your ear even closer have someone to turn it back on,, besides hearing the fan come on you should be able to hear the compressor come on also,, if not you could take the wire off the contactor that goes to the fan so it won`t come on,then turn power back on again and hear the compressor only come on,,

Ok, so I disconnected the fan, and turned on the AC. I could hear a click sound and then a humming/buzz sound. But the buzzing was very quiet.

There was also a flashing red led on the circuit board.

Does the capacitor appear swollen/distorted on the terminal end (like a frozen carbonated beverage can), and/or is fluid leaking from it? If so, replace (disconnect power supply!).

Turn the power off going to the system remove the electrical cap on the compressor to see if one of the three wires are burnt off. I agree with KC13 check the capacitor first.

If wire to the compressor is burned,, its not likely that the compressor would be humming or buzzing,, unless you are hearing the contactor humming

I agree the compressor won't hum or buzz with a leg of power missing but you have to start some where. I assumed he or she was hearing the hum (sound) of the contactor or reversing valve with out the compressor running.
