Normally I have someone fill out my taxes for me but this year I decided to do them myself. I do not understand which copy of my 1099 misc. copy goes to the IRS. My employer gave me a copy 1, for state department, copy 2, for state income tax return, Copy C, for payer and a Copy B, for recipient. Can anyone tell me the answer? Thanks

You don't attach your 1099 to your tax return, unless it shows that some tax was withheld.

Keep copy B with you are return all other copies to your employer. This is your employer's job.

What?
You always get a copy for federal, state, your records. Copy C may be a mistake, but if the employer sent it to you and keeps records electronically then it probably doesn't matter.
In reality, the forms are identical, so as long as the entity (state or federal) get a copy with the amount of taxes withheld for that entity, things are fine.
It's fine print that designed to help you to keep things straight.
