I have a problem with my combination Heat pump (Goodman)/oil fired (AirFlow) hot air system.

New House furnace Installation fall of 95, with heat pump fall 96. I now have replaced the Oil furnace Controls, Beckett Transformer once simultaneously with the Beckett Relay block twice Part # 51970U first service call on inspection loose screw down connections were found. Since these were always middle of the night and weekends charges. I took a shot at it the first time tapping and re position the transformer it worked, next season same situation tap and jiggle and I drew life for an additional week, then it failed. The relay contact has a printed circuit board in it that crakced or burnt away from the circuit board which hence jiggling allowed it to fire. These units are a sealed cast unit and the Service manager said he could not determine the cause. Today Service was called after losing heat over the weekend kept alive by switching the system breakers off and on usually once in a 24 hour period sometimes twice.

My heat pump may be to blame as the Oil man tech explained because my beckert relay and transformer control is trying to work the oil end while the heat pump tries to run because of the themostat level controls. My heat pump is fighting and miss fire my furnace causing an overload.

My A/C tech says the pump is designed to handle operations into high mid 20 degree range. So his suggestion find another relay with a heftier Rating he gives Becket Parts at a 4 out a 10 rating. Did I mention his opinion they "suck " My furnace installer is out of business ! Question do they make a heavier one ? Where do I find one This is my 3rd season with this system and I'm now afraid to leave the home to travel with extreme weather conditions. On top of it my Oil distributor is my service company that took over the defunct installers business and they do not carry these parts. If I switch companies I'm subject to a full systems re inspection ground up feature bt feature. Thank you Ontario the fee was high enough once. What to do ? Help

Hi me again

After 6 hours of calling support lines

I have a Beckett AFG oil burner with a :
Beckett'honeywell R71584A 1075 Intercepter P primary Control Lock 15 Seconds 0716
With
Beckett 51970U A/C Ready Kit replaces 7520U
The A/C ready kit was replaced both service calls The primary control the first service in addition to the kit

Again the Oil tech states it was burnt and faulty and no cause could be found
Hence my previous bloc

Today frustrated I call R.W. Becket and their Tech says this 7184A Control with another series of numbers on right side of the control a white label contains a 6 (mine is 0716) Honeywell Corp. has made notice to it's distributors regarding a fault and offers a 2-1 to distributor form of swap. Distributors were advised of notice something to do with EMI currents causing defects. Contact your distributor.

The Becket tech could not answer if this is the cause of my A/C ready Kit burn out. When inquired if this part had a notice he didn't know. Asked about performance complaints he said this could have been a cause but the primary control should have been upgraded.

I inquired about compatibility with the Honeywell 8184M as an all in 1 replacement upgrade and he stated yes it's compatible and would eliminate the need for the A/c ready kit.

A Comment was which do you prefer and A/c ready kit at 84 bucks or a all in one at 295 retail especially if there is a cause. Like to know your opinion, I know I'll get the Primary control changed free of charge. Also I'd like to know if someone has a copy of this Honeywell White PaperI've called 3 local wholesalers locally and they say they heven't seen it but something's in the works.
.

Thanks so far for the Help

I inquired about compatibility with the Honeywell 8184M as an all in 1 replacement upgrade and he stated yes it's compatible and would eliminate the need for the A/c ready kit.

This is the way to go as far as I am concerned. As you can see the 8184M is anywhere from 25.00 on eBay to 170.00 other places. Eliminate all the BS and use a proven 8184M. End of story and the end of your problems.

NOTE: the M series has a 45 second delay where as the R71584A has 15 second. As far as I would be concerned I do not see a problem with that and Becket did not mention it as a problem. Also I am sure there are other controlers out there that might have the 15 second and the 40 VA transformer built in.
