:confused:Ok. So Friday I will have had my tongue pierced for a week. The piercer put in a longer bar so to allow for swelling. I haven't had much swelling at all. It's worst in the morning and even then I still have quite a bit of excess bar. I've already ripped my tongue a little bit because the bar has so much excess that it caught on one of my teeth. As if its not obvious I also have trouble talking because the bar is in my way. I have to worry about catching it again. I have a debate tournament on saturday; I was told that I wasn't suppose to go but a cancellation left them with one place they needed to fill. So do you think it would be OK for me to go and have it changed Friday. I've read the minimum is one week... but... I don't know...

I had my tongue pierced before, and I had the same problem you did. I changed to a shorter barbell about a week after I got mine pierced, and everything worked out fine. You don't have anything to worry about if you change the barbell, just as log as you're sure you aren't going to swell up. Good luck at your debate!

Thanks. Everyone keeps telling me don't change it until its completely healed. I explain that it can't heal if I'm ripping it all the time... So will the rip close back once it stops having pressure put on it??

I have my tongue piereced. I changed the bar the morning after it got done because I coulnd't talk and would bite down on it when I was trying to eat. All I can say is ICE ICE ICE and ICE!! Mina didn't swell very much but ice helps out even more. It hurts first thing in the mionring because your mouth is dry. Drink a glass of water when you get up and drink water throughout the day. It makes it feel a lot better. And the rips will heal. Just give it a little time

Yeah, your rips will heal just fine, it just takes some time.

Mmk. I just changed it I made sure to change it in the morning when it was most swollen to be sure it wouldn't be too bad... it's just fine I can talk better now... still have a little lisp but I think that's just because I'm not completely use to it. I know I couldn't just take it out though I felt so bare with it out when I was changing it...
