I am from Holland, i have been married to an american for over a year and we have been dating for 4 years. I never bothered to start the immigration process since i never thought i would be leaving my country.
A couple of months ago there was a death in my husband's side of the family and one of his parents are very ill, he consequently decided to move back to CA and i naturally miss him and i would like to join him.
I didn't get much information at the american embassy here in Amsterdam except that i need to download a form online and file it.
Some people have told me that the immigration law in the US is a hard and tedious process that will take a very long time, i am wondering how long would i have to wait or if they will give me a temporary stay permit while i tramit my green card? or do i have to stay in my country and tramit the visa and wait for this to be done before i can move?...my fear is that it will take years and i will be apart from my husband.
I tried reading the official US immigration site but i found it to be very confusing.
Please if you can shed some light on this issue i will appreciate it.
