Found this in old garage. It has teeth and gears, and will cut grass. It looks like an old lawn mower but I'm not sure. Does anyone know what it is.

I remember reading a story about this type of lawn mower I believe. There is a very similar appearance to them but I cannot be absolutely sure that they are the same.
Included is a link which may identify the mower you have. There is also a photograph which may help.
Olivia Sue Lambert demonstrates an Old Lawnmower (http://photos.igougo.com/pictures-j45203-s2-The_State_Born_of_the_Civil_War_Part_I_Philippi-photos.html):
If not they maybe able to positively identify it for you. Looks to be a great piece of preserved history.

This is a lawn mower from pre War World 11. After the war they made the handles were made of wood. It was used for all people not just golf courses. I am going to try and send you the ad for the Monta Mower hopefully it will go through. If it does not go through just Google "antique mowers " look at the bottom of page and you will see a link to the Monto Mower.

Yup! It's a monta mower all right. Not only is it pre ww2 its pre ww1. It dates back from the 1900 to 1020's. It was a flop and was quickly replaced by those twisted blades mowers. That's why you don't see many of these today. People bought them at the general store because beautiful lawns was an ever growing fad (obsession) in those days and municipalities offered prizes for best kept lawns.
