What's the difference between giving up and moving on? I think that there is no difference.
It's better to just remember to not think of your ex when your thoughts stray back on them. Just pretend that they never existed, they never came into your life, and you won't be sad. Think that there is someone out there for you that is perfect.
There's no one to depend on but yourself. Build yourself up and you'll be with the perfect person; yourself. You'll be happy. You can fulfill all your hopes and dreams. On Valentine's day, what would you have liked someone else to give you? A romantic dinner, and an expensive present? No problem. You can make that come true for yourself. Buy yourself the dinner at the restaurant of your choosing, buy yourself the dream present that you wanted.
These are all the things I wish for myself and all of you who are heartbroken, hoping an ex will come back, hating your ex, loving your ex, going through no contact with your ex, etc. Anyone and everyone.
Back to the original question; What's the difference between giving up and moving on?

Dangerous thought. We can happy only to a certain to degree by ourselves. We are not built that way. Ultimate happiness and joy will only come from being a union with another person. That's the way we are built. Trying to say anything else is like saying a fish belongs out of water. A fish could think the beach is pretty and warm all they want, but if they swim on to it, they'll die. Why? They belong in water, that's part of who it is.
Humans like to think we can be just fine without someone else, and we can be just fine. We just won't super happy or joyful.

I like your sentiment that people are happiest together. This may be true, but I just wanted to put out there that some think that people should be happy by themselves. Those that are happy by themselves are those that are supposedly some sort of beacon of light that attracts others to them (beacon of light - nonreligious context). I would love to be happy by myself, but I really do want to have a boyfriend and that would make me the happiest person in the entire universe. :)

Yes, I know there are people that believe that. They're the fish flapping away on the beach, so engrossed by the sun on their scales they don't recognize they're suffocating from lack of oxygen.

@NeverMe - how old do I sound?
@ka1 - I'm confused by your statement. I think you're saying that those people are dying. LOL!

You are the only one you can rely on one hundred percent of the time...
... Unless your REALLY lucky.
Yeah, I can't comment on that with any degree of intellectually honesty, since I feel that way many times through out the day. And since I'm not one of those people that thinks the good times with my ex are worth pain, I'm even more cynical in my emotional moments.
But one thing I like about myself is I've learned that I will and moan about a lot of stuff, but do the right thing in end, even if I don't want too.
HENCE THE NC, working out, going out on a friendly date on V-day (it was set before I got the news about my uncle, so I did not cancel) etc.

Yes they are. It's just a riff on that the fact humans are built in certain ways, and it does not matter if we believe something is one way, if its against the way we are fundamentally, we will only get so far. I see this with African-American young women (I'm black) who are told you don't need a man, go get your career. They're never fully happy. Careers don't warm your bed. Well... I guess some careers could:eek:

@NeverMe - Haha, yeah. I know that no one and nothing can make you infinitely happy and that it was an overstatement at best. :) I'd just love if it were true though. LOL!

So ka do you see a difference between Caucasian and Black women then in relation to their career goals in life?
Any difference between them and Asian women?
And finally, how does that relate to a male perspective on careers?
Is there a difference between Asian, Black etc. men?
