We got a 4 year old chichuaua from the a shelter but was not properly house broken. Unfortunately he goes everywhere in our bed, on tables and idem left on the floor and so on. Is there still hope in training or will he need to wear a diaper for now on :(
Thx

IN my opinion you can still train him but you will need to be very very patient and persistent. If you scold a dog for doing his business in the house, all you are teaching him is not to do it in front of you, because if he does it when you don't see him, nothing bad happens. A dog associates a consequence with an action only if that consequence comes during or immediately after the action so it is no use punishing him if you come home and find a mess he may have done an hour ago. Hopefully, he gives off signals when he is about to go :sniffing/circling. If so, you can take him outside and if he does it there, go nuts with praise and reward him with something fantastic, like a game or a juicy bit of chicken. If he doesn't give off signals, you will just have to take him out every hour at first. Some people like to paper train or use training pads, then gradually move these outside which can work well. Ignore the accidents and stick at it. Good luck.
