I have to go to court in March for a Capital One credit card I had about 9 years ago. I live in Massachusetts and was wondering what I can do about this. Is there a statue of limitations on credit card debt? The original balance was $2500 & they're asking for $7500. I was recently laid off & have other current debt I'm paying. I can probably come up with $2500 but don't know if I should. I received all 3 of my credit reports and it shows I have no negative accounts or collections. I was trying to research this but didn't find any clear info. I did find something that said if it's a Law Firm bringing you to court but they've listed Capital One as the Plaintiff that that's considered fraud because they're not Capital One, they're debt collectors & it's clearly stated on the letters they've sent me. Should I mention that to the judge or say something to the Law Firm before then? I'm so confused. Please help. Thanks.
