I have a child (non biological) who was born into the marriage and he has my signature on his birth certificate. We were divorced in 2004 and agreed between us that it would not be fair to me to pay child support since she did not need my assistance. Now I have applied for citizenship they are requiring me to show proof of support. My wife agreed to provide me a letter saying that we have a private agreement between us concerning the child support. However, there is the court order which was not fulfilled. If even though I can obtain evidence of him not being my biological child, is this going to make me ineligible? All I did was to provide a name for a father to a child to legitimize him with all the good intentions (big mortal mistake?) and it would not have been a problem to pay a court ordered child support which was a ridiculous amount of $60 a month (which I should have done. I cannot simply remove myself from the birth certificate since it is nearly impossible. Is there anyone who can help me in this matter? I have got myself into more trouble than I have ever imagined.
