I worked in two states NY (stayed in NJ) for 3 months
And balance 9 months in CT
How to adjust the amounts pertaining to CT( Tax withheld or paid in W2 is $2178 for income of $43567 and NY ( Tax withheld or paid $11 for income of $43717 as per my W2).My total fedral income is $43717 as per W2

How to split the income to states out of fedral income?

Do I have to pay taxes for two states?
Can I show an income of $10854 for NY and $32562 for CT based on the months, proportionately and based on that calculate the tax respectively.
Or do I have to calculate the tax based on $43417 for both the states? Is so is it not double payment to state?

If you are present in a state, then any income earned during this period, must be reported to the state.

To your resident state, you must report your worldwide income for the year. Read: Your U.S. Tax Return: Working or Living in Two or More states (http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2008/06/working-in-two-or-more-states.html)

Thanks and Regards
