My 19 year old sons father has been incarcerated in another state since before he was born. At the time of our divorce, the court ordered him to pay child support.

I called the child support office and they said my ex does have an arrears of several thousand dollars.

Can I still collect this money? I never pursued the issue because I assumed that since my ex was in prison he couldn't pay me anyway. They knew he was incarcerated at the time.

But now I wonder if I had pursued it would the state have paid it and gone after my ex? I have a call in to the case worker listed on my file. (I didn't know I had a case worker) Just wondering.
Ohio is my state where I live and the support was ordered. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

What did they set child support at knowing he had no way of making money ?
How long has he been out of prison ?

I believe they HAD to assign a child support. He is still currently in prison. He was given a life sentence.

Then what's the point unless he were to get some sort of inheritance ? That's really your only hope at this time.
