Hello,
I do handy work, I do not have an EIN number...
How can I get paid for the work I did.
Previouse companies used my SS number.
Contractor states he can not pay me without an EIN.
Can he not use my SS number?
Is there a special form I can obtain.
Please advise...

Zee,
Yes Scott is correct here the business in question can use your SSN.
When he says he needs your EIN what he is really trying to say is that he needs IRS form W-9 and that he intends to send you a 1099 at the end of the year for the amounts he has paid you. Fill out form W-9, check the sole-proprietor box and put your SSN in the box for that. That should clear up any trouble with the contractor. Also, I recommend filling out one W-9 and making multiple copies and keeping them handy so you can give them out as needed.
