Newbie to owning a new home and learning as I go. My home AC unit stopped shooting cold air. (done all the checks mentioned on sites). The unit is running but "Only the fan" on the outside unit. The motor still "sounds" like it is trying to turn the fan... but smoke came out of the fan blade area. I turned it off. Left the fan running, with the unit not on cold at least to circulate air around for some relife. As of now looking on the net before I call a AC guy. Maybe some help from you experts on installing a fan unit or call a AC guy?

I don't understand if you condenser fan motor is running or not... at first you say it was the only thing running and then you said it sounds like it is trying to turn the fan and then you say smoke came out the fan blade area.
Give us some more information about what is going on. But I can tell you one thing in electrical equipment if you let the smoke out it is ruined and must be replaced.. . just a little humor.
