I am trying to identify a small red berry with white specks. The berry skin is fairly translucent. It grows on a small shrub with silvery green leaves. The berries are close to the stem rather than drupes. It appears similar to some species of buffaloberry, but so far I haven't been able to find it listed anywhere. The berries are edible.
Thanks!

Riberries maybe?Riberry, Syzygium luehmannii - a Bush Tucker Plant or Bush Food - Australian native food plant (http://www.teachers.ash.org.au/bushtucker/Riberry.html)

I believe those are Elaeagnus multiflora, or Goumi. They are indeed edible (PS what do they taste like? I take it you've eaten them, if you know they're edible. I've never had one myself.) They have about seven times as much lycopene as tomatoes -- lycopene is said to be a cancer fighter.

Hi! Rini, and welcome to AMHD :)
A tough choice to make
Syzygium luehmannii - Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syzygium_luehmannii)

Or
Elaeagnus multiflora - Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elaeagnus_multiflora)

Tough because both offer the same qualities; Edible, clove like taste, and offer nutraceuticals that are beneficial to the body.

Thanks for all the answers. I found out it is called both Japanese silverberry and autumn olive.
