Imagine that Mars can now support human life. Who would you send? How would you choose who and what to send? How would you establish the "perfect life" without the problems that we face today on Earth? What kind of laws/ values/ educational system etc. would you introduce?

Mars can NOT (yet) support any life. It has hardly anything that can be called an atmosphere.
And what atmosphere it has does not contain any oxygen.

So why send humans? First send a series of robotical visitors. I know we already do that, but very few were successful in arriving there in "one piece", and become fully operational. Let's get that under control first.

Establishing anything like "perfect life" on Mars will take hundreds if not thousands of earth years first for establishing an appropriate basic atmosphere that contains oxygen and is not dangerous to life. Till that is done (if it is possible at all) all life on Mars will be based on specialised colony existence.

And as we have no experience with that, let's start building a colony base first on the moon, to learn what and how to do, and what not. The Moon is only 5 days away. Mars takes on average some 6 months to get there.

And yes, if you look at the problems we face today on Earth... Don't put your money on Mars investments would be my advice...

I suggest that it is worth to first review our own earth position towards laws/ values/ educational system etc. If we can not get that right, why even bother contemplating the requirements for Mars ?

This question is part of my anthropology assignment and I basically have to conduct a survey to see what people think. So posting this question here will help in structuring survey questions for a pilot study.

I also actually would like to know what people from different parts of the world think. Coz the feedback that I get are mostly from where I live and study.
