I got a marketing letter from a lawyer saying that public records say that I am being sued by Capital One. I am confused as to how they received this information, so I did a search of Google and found no public records to that sort. I often check the website for my local civil court where there is a section that you can look up court filings. I searched for my name and I found an old case that was settled in 2006, and then two new cases that I haven't received papers for (none for Capital One, though), and they have a filing date of December 2008.
I'm not sure if this is really me, maybe someone with the same name, but I am very concerned. How long does it take for the papers to get to me? Should I go to the court and confirm that I am the person who is being sued here or wait for service? Also, where else can I look for public records that may have my name? Thanks.
