We cannot locate the main sewer pipe coming into our house. We have dug down about 3 and a half feet under the concrete floor. On one side we hit dirt, and the other is gravel. The gravel is collapsing into the trench from under the concrete. We can hear the water running through the sewer when we flush the upstairs toilet but with all this digging I.m wondering how far down could the pipe be? Is there some type of radar that can find these pipes?

Yes there is Some plumbers or company's have a locater to pin point the exact location.
He runs a snake in the line that has a transmitter on the end and he finds that end above the slab with what looks like a metal Detector.
This also tells how deep the inches are from floor to pipe.
Just for the heck of it see if you have a rental store that can rent it to you. I doubt it since it's a very expensive piece of equipment but you never know unless you ask.
