We received 2 W-2's from my husband's employer this year which I found odd to begin with. I will try to make a long story short. My husband worked for an employer when we lived in NC for almost 10 years. In 2004 they closed the office and we ended up moving to VA for work. In June 2007 that same employer opened up an office in GA and my husband started working for them again. We lived in VA until February 1st of 2008 when we actually moved to the state of GA. We got his W-2's and the first one looks normal with all the boxes filled in except for the state portion which it showed the state as being NC , and $2361 in state wages and tips and showed $84.00 (box 17) as state income tax. The second W-2 had all boxes blank except for the state portion at the bottom Box 15 showed GA, box 16 showed his gross income as in Box 1 minus the $2361 credited to NC and the taxes paid to GA. We asked the employer to correct it because we haven't lived or worked in NC since 2004. They sent us back the same 2 W-2's the only difference is they took the amount for state taxes off NC they are reflecting as -0- but are still showing the state of NC in the box. And the Georgia wages are still reelected as $2300 less. They made no changes to the second W-2. What am I supposed to put on my federal return?? Doesn't that look suspicious that the GA wages are $2300 less but now there's no number to relect why? Shouldn't they have just adjusted it and took NC off all together instead of leaving it on there blank? I really do not know what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
