My 12 year old son started with this strange rash on his back and I was unsure if it was the chickenpox because I've never had them. Then they became raised bumps with white fluid in them. Took him to the Pediatrician and he says "Oh that's molloscum". He says there's nothing you can do for it. They have to go away on their own and it may take two years. You try telling a self conscious preteen that news. Is that true? Is there no cure for this. Should I take him to see a dermatologist? Anyone else ever hear of this condition or have a child with it?

My daughter had it. It lasted about a year. If you go to a dermatologist they will burn them off but there is no guarantee that they won't come back.

With her doctor's blessing I used tea tree oil on them. When I noticed one starting to come up I would dab it once a day with a q-tip dipped in tea tree oil. If it continued to grow into a full-fledged pimple (some did, most didn't) then we would open it (make sure you get the white core out) and then dab it with tea tree oil once a day to keep it from getting infected.

You can find out more about it at Molluscum contagiosum - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molluscum_contagiosum)
