I'm a resident of CT and worked two jobs in 2008. One job in CT, one job in NY.

NY state tax is the only withholding from the NY checks because CT has higher tax.

Why do I have to pay tax on this money twice on the tax forms.

I filed IT 203 in NY and then have to file CT 1040 and pay tax on the NY wages again?

The so called credit CT gives is not comparable to the extra tax on those wages.

Please help!

On the resident state you will report your worldwide income for the year. You will also claim credit for taxes paid to another state on income earned in that state.

The credit CT gives is at the lesser of taxes paid to NY or CT's tax rate. So if CT's rate is higher than NY's, the credit will not equal the tax that CT puts on your wages.
