My son is 18 years old and had gotten into trouble last year at home.
He went to live at my mothers house to finish school.
He is in gr 12 but doesn't do homework or study for tests.
When asked why he flips out saying its not anyone's business.
He hangs out with younger kids and is only interested in music nothing more.
He doesn't want to work but wants money.
He is very rude to everyone and doesn't help out in the house without being yelled at.
He is mean to my mom and my older sister.
We talk on the phone everyday and I visit everyweekend but when I try to find out why he is being the way he is he freeks out and yell. He acts like he is still 14 years old and will only acknowledge he is 18 when he is being disaplained.
For him to keep his room clean he needs someone to be on him and everyone there is busy and tired to do that .
I am at my wits end.
I am afraid that he will make everyone so mad at him that they will kick him out.
He is the type of kid dealers pray on because he craves attention from his peers so much.
We all have tried with him I am now scared for him.
Please help if you can

Hello 2xtrouble,

Sorry to hear that things are going bad.

Personally, I think you should sit down and have a man-to-man talk with your son.
You must make it clear to him that you know he wants to be respected and treated like a man because he is 18. You must also add that if he wishes to be treated that way he must start acting like a man and stop acting like a pre-teen.

Make it clear to him that if he wants to succeed in life, he must stop yelling and adopt a more mature and civil manner of talking to people, not yelling at them.

Tell him that you don't like raising your voice at him, or having to discipline him - but you are forced to because of his childish behaviour.

Maybe your son is trying to make it big through music, and that is the reason why he doesn't want to study.

I guess you've already told him a hundred times how important school is, so I'm sure he's aware of it, but maybe afraid he won't succeed so he has chosen an "easier" way of success through music. (Correct me if I'm wrong).

Best of luck with your son,
