My landlord and I had a verbal agreement that we were going to renew our lease which ends on February 28,2009. This happened before christmas 2008. Now she comes over and says that they aren't going to renew the lease. And that we need to be out by March 15, 2009. (Don't we get 2 months notice?)

Second question. We gave them 1st and last months rent as the security deposit. Do I have to give them the March rent or can I use the last month rent deposit?

Thank You in advance for helping!? Tom

My understanding of this is that it is not official unless it is in wrighting. The reason being is that you cannot prove in a court of law that you had a verbal agreement. It comes down to your word against theirs. As for the fact that you paid the first and last months rent, you should be able to live out your deposit. Again, when you are renting you need to get all agreements in wrighting because it is extremely hard to fight word against word. Hope this helps, good luck
