I live in Canada and I like to visit Maine for a few weeks or months every year. I was wondering how does one get U.S. citizenship? I have a clean criminal record and I speak English and French, I heard speaking more than one language is an asset. What about owning some shares in U.S. stocks?

You don't have to obtain US citizenship to live in the States a few months out of the year. I think the limit for a Canadian is 6 months. And you travel back for six months in Canada to retain your benefits. Why would you want to give up your benefits, OHIP OAS CPP by taking US citizenship ?

You don't need to be US citizen. Under the Visa Waiver Program, as a Canadian, you can stay in US as visitor for 90 days. Read here: Visa Waiver Program (VWP) (http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/without/without_1990.html)
