Okay here is my dilema... I'm on an online dating site and I met a very interesting and attractive girl. We emailed back and forth for a while and she asked if it was okay to call. I said sure and we have spoken on the phone a several times now and video chatted over webcam. Well I was under the impression she was 18 because of her online profile and I find out now she is 17.
Unfortunately, I feel a connection with the girl so I feel it hard to do what I would normally do... blow the girl off completely. She is actually really cool and mature. But I am 23 and am in a serious moral dilema here. Now don't get me wrong... anything physical would be out of the question until the girl is 18 which is in a few months. But would it be immoral to keep talking with her or potentially hang out with her as a friend? She wants to meet in person and doesn't see anything wrong with it. Am I creepy for even considering this? LoL I hope not. This would be a very easy decision if I didn't like her but I do so I feel immoral for even that. I would appreciate a second opinion on what to do here. I've known people to date girls much younger... and if I was 26 and she was 20 it wouldn't be a big deal at all. But her being a few months shy of 18 is just a buzzkill! How should I handle this and what do I do??

Wiat that few months before you meet, then she will be 18 and you will not have to be too concerned

Had to spread the rep Chuck, but I agree.

Why chance it, wait until she's 18. I'd ask for ID at that time, just in case. ;)

You can't compare a 26 year old dating a 20 to your situation because a 20 year old is of legal age and capable of doing things that a 17 year old can't.

If she's going be 18 in a few months than what is the rush?

This shows you that you have to be careful. Yesterday I looked up my niece myspace page and found out she is posting that she's 21 when she's only 15. Now she can past for 21 but she's not. Now her page is down because I reported it to myspace and her parents.

I think was my point there captain obvious. I've made up my mind and told her we will wait until she is 18 to hang out. Even if it's legal or whatever (which I don't really know) , got to stick to my morals.

Ok first off people that don't know the answers to questions really should shut {vulgarity eliminated} up. I'm sorry but it's true. Depending what state you live in it is perfectly legal to have sex with a 17 year old. I'm not telling you you should do it because well that's on you and it gets tricky if your crossing state borders and what not. As for if it's legal for a 23 and 17 year old to get together yes it is. Given some states are different so look up what it is in your state. The only reason people say it is not legal is because they go off the porn age. You must be 18 for that. So everyone that doesn't know what you are talking about please shut up. If you don't believe me check it out for yourself to to Age of Consent - Sexual Consent Ages From Around The World (http://www.ageofconsent.com). That's just one of many websites that says it's OK. As for the person that ratted on her niece about her myspace {vulgarity removed} confront her about it first next time. {unwarranted abuse removed}

Sex with a minor is always statutory rape. As minors cannot give consent it is statutory rape for two teens to have sex. Oh noes: pesky truth

First, you need to read the site rules about language and insulting other members.

Second, no one said that it would be illegal. But we don't know their location so it might be.

Chuck's response is the most responsible one. Continue to talk to her online, but wait until she's 18 to meet and there will be no problems.

NoDaddy dot com (https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/members/nodaddy+dot+com.html) : not in the united states where this board's members reside by implication

First, this board is international. While the majority of our members are from the US a large proprtion are not. Second, don't understand what the "not in the united states" refers to. You made an incorrect statement in an earlier post. In most US states the age of consent is 16. Even where its higher, often its not statutory rape unless the rapist is older than the victim.

my sister was 17 when she had a kid and the dad was 27 so i dont see a problem

You don't? You think its OK for a 26-27 year old to be having sex with a 16-17 yr old? Your sistem may have been 17 when she gave birth, but may have started having sex with him at 16.

Sorry, but I see LOTS of potential problems here. What you don't say is what their status is now. Are they married? Is he supporting her and the child? How long ago did this happen?

Just wait until she is 18 until you meet her... Then card her... LOL... you may laugh, but when my boyfriend and I started dating like 5 of his friends asked for my I.D. ((They didn't believe that I was 22))...
