Have decided to replace our Heat pump. Looking at and talking to different contractors now. Trying to decide between the two below, and would greatly appreciate any input. Both contractors are highly recommended:

York: HSPF 9.3, Seer 15.1. 5 Ton. Variable speed blower, Dual phase compressor. Includes air handler. Lifetime compressor warrantly. 10 parts. 10yr labor possibly included. Affinity Series. 6800 installed. Apparently York sets up their aux heat differently, with a sensor located outside rather than in the home.

Carrier. HSPF 8. Seer 14.5. 5 Ton. Variable speed blower. Single phase compressor. 10 year compressor, 10 yr parts. Carrier Comfort series. 7700 installed.

Any suggestions on this? Would not mind paying more for the carrier if carrier makes a more dependable/reliable product, but if both are similar, would go with the cost savings. To me, the labor warranty is HUGE with the york product.

York is a good brand and it is cheeper than the carrier,higher seer,hspf and everything elese. Go with the york.
p.s. I am a expert on tools&power equptment and Heating & air.

York sounds good but I have no use for the variable speed. If you do get the variable speed make sure you get 10 years warranty BOTH parts and labor. The variable speed is expensive to fix.

I've got an aging York at home and its one tough system. Carrier is good stuff as well. But assuming the installer has a good reputation, that York quote sounds good to me. Can't imagine why you wouldn't have an outdoor sensor. Maybe the Carrier guy just didn't mention it.
