Hello, hope you are fine. I'm an au pair in Philly, but tired of this work and this company, I really want to study here, and spend more time here in the US, I have a j-1 Visa with a valid DS-2019, so my question is: how can I change my visa to F-1? And if my DS-2019 is cancelled, would I be illegal? And everything in the future would be more difficult if I want to change my Visa status? Thank you for your answer!

If you did not finish the program as per D/S, you must leave US immediately and you have one week to do that.
Changing status I from J-1 to F-1 is US is highly not recommended. You need to submit the application 90 days before you leave the program, and if your case is denied, you will fall out of status before you leave US. Almost 90% of Au Pair didn't return to their home countries and more than half of this number stays in US illegally... the chance to get an approval is very slim..

The best choice is leave the program, return to your home country and apply for F-1 at US consulate.

Thank you so much for your answer! It was so helpful! Do you think that changing my Visa from j to f in my country will be easy? I'm from Venezuela, and right now the Visa issues are critical because of the political problems between US government and Venezuelan government.
