I have a 98 Ford explorer with 5.0 V8. Last year I experienced ac problems where it just quit blowing cold. I read forums on the internet about the accumulator being wrapped and rusting (which mine was pretty bad), so I replaced it. After I recharged the system it worked fine for about 3-4 weeks and gradually warmed back up. I took it to have the ac system checked and was told it had a couple of leaks that would cost near $1000 to fix and I did not want to put that kind of money in it since I am trying to sell it. I tried a can of stop leak which seemed to do the trick. It cools fine when I am just idling but whenever I accelerate it warms up until I idle back down. I did notice when idle the compressor runs constantly. Does anyone know what I should check for?

I am assuming that when you changed the condenser, you also changed the orifice tube (an absolute necessity), and sucked the system down with a vacuum pump prior to recharge. $1000 to fix some leaks sounds a tad high. Just look for signs of compressor oil around the joints in your system. If a hose is bad, just buy a new one. If the leaks are at connection points, new o-rings should work. If the Schrader valves are bad, they are cheap. To get the hoses apart you might have to buy set of quick change hose tools (about $10 made by Lisle). Good luck.
