I think 10% for anything up to 7 or 10 thousand is what the tax charts say but I get all my tax back plus the EIC and stimulus. I make under 10 thousand.

You are self employed. You must file your tax return if your income is $400 or more.
You will report your income and expenses on schedule C or C-EZ (Form 1040). This income is subject to SE tax at 15.3%. Read: Your U.S. Tax Return: Tax Filing by Self Employed Sole Proprietor or Independent Contractor (http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2008/04/tax-filing-by-self-employed-sole.html)

If you are required to file a tax return, then you have to report all income received unless it is specifically exempt.

Since you babysitting would be classified as a child care provider and would report that income as self employment income on Schedule C.

The requirements for filing a return are lower if you have self-employment income. If you had net earnings from self-employment of at least $400, you must file a return.
