Sorry there are no special loans or money for excons, if you were wanting to perhaps open a 1/2 way house, or a job training program and est a non profit group, you may find some grant money ( often matching funds that go along with your own fund raising efforts)

You can go to a bank or for business the SBA and apply for any loan everyone else can,

This site is full of the same question that you asked. Sorry to disillusion you, but you don't get any special privileges from the government because you are an excon, let alone grants because you are an excon.

There is A Second Chance Law with some benefits that I am aware of, thought somebody might have more info. I will not give up searching to help my cousin.

Hello w:

I found something in PA where there was legislation proposed that give a felon a "second chance". But, it had to do with hiring and background checks. It had NOTHING to do with loans...

Suffering from the same indignity as your cousin, I can promise you, there are NO loans guaranteed by ANY government for exconvicts.

What is your cousin trying to do? If he's opening a business, he can get money. But, there's no money just to pay bills and get started after the joint...

Hello again, W:

Then your post has MORE to do with business than it does criminality.

IF he qualifies for a loan, like ANY small businessperson would, then his criminal record WON'T stand in his way.

However, if he just WANTS to open a landscaping business, because it's a cool business to be in, having NEVER run one before, or not having any of his own money into the project, he's NOT going to qualify for a loan.
