I have an old watercolor marked Sevilla - Miro, it's signed but I am wondering if this could be the modern artist Miro, It's not his style at all. It's basically a water color pen & ink of a plaza with a water fountain. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks firegirllaura

Hi firegirl. You may have a Miro, but it's just not that Miro. Beyond the fact that the styles and hands are very different, the signatures don't come close to matching up. Miro's signature is very distinct. In fact, it is distinct enough for me to have remembered what it looks like. You can find images of it here:

miro signature - Google Image Search (http://images.google.it/images?q=miro%20signature&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&hl=en&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi)

I'm sorry that I don't.

To tell you the truth, this image reminds me of the kinds of things street painters make. You see them in major cities in Italy, France, Spain... I have never asked how much they cost when new, but they're generally on the affordable side as far as art goes.

I could be wrong, but that's my honest guess.

This is most likely a case in which the painting might be worth more as an addition to your home than it would be if sold. How did you acquire the painting? Do you have any other information to share about it?

You could always bring it by a local gallery to hear what they think. If you do find any more information, please come back to share it here.

I thought that It was most likely bought from a street vendor but it would have been decades ago. I wondered if early on someone like Miro might have been a street painter?? I got this and others drawings, inks, and paintings from 2 elderly ladies that bought them on their travels. It sounded to me like it was quite a while ago. I have a Rachfal, 2 maurice leyendre? Legendre? And a Seiler (guessing willy seiler) (it's a picture of Koln - cathedral), They were getting rid of a lot of stuff. Many have pricetags e.g. 25 DM etc. the Miro was not priced, but did come with a tag. The tag say CREBCIONES VELASCO certificate of guaranty. Original work painted in water colour totally by hand by our artists. Tag is in four languages. Thanks for your replies.
