I am trying to help my daughter with her homework and she has to define "to cat about." We are having a problem finding this phrase. Please help.

The full phrase is "tom cat" about. I've always heard it used to describe the behavior of a man who is on the prowl to meet women. I've seen it refer to either simply seeking to meet women or to someone having indiscriminate sex with women.

I don't know what grade she's in but this seems a rather strange question for a child to be asked.

If I remember correctly cats don't do very much except, look cute, eat, sleep, play and do what ever they like. I'm inclined to think that if someone said that they would be meaning that the person they said that to would probably be really cute and it's a gentle way of telling them that they do things at their own leisure, not helping around the house etc. don't quote me on this its only my opinion

If you read English literature you will see that this is not the definition - this has nothing to do with "lounging about." This has everything to do with the sexual propensities of male cats.
