I let this person stay at my house after he got out of prison because he had no other place to go and I thought he was a nice person. So when he got here he gave me some items he had stored at a storage place. He could not pay the storage fee so he would rather have me have the stuff rather then them. So he stayed here for about three months and then he just left without telling me he was even leaving. I was not at home when he left but my friend next door was and this person that left told my friend he could not stand living here anymore and took his stuff and went. That was 03-03-08. So now a month later he sends me a email telling me he wants he things he gave me back. That was 04-04-08. So I new the phone number where he was staying and I called him and told him to come and get what he wanted or I was going to get rid of the stuff myself. I have not heard from him for almost nine months. I have already had that stuff taken away I think I gave him enough time to come and get what he wanted. So today He comes over and wants that stuff and I don't have it. Am I in the right?

You should have protected yourself by sending him a registered letter demanding that he pick up his "stuff" within a certain number of days.
If he decides to sue you for the value, then you would defend yourself purely on the time frame. I can't imagine you would lose but stranger things have happened.
When did you get rid of his "stuff?"

It was about two months ago. What do I tell him?

Tell him the truth; you gave him ample time to get his things and he neglected to.

Now we're even - you took the words out of my mouth.
