We are having our bathroom floor & wall behind the tub tiled tomorrow, but I want to paint tonight. Can I paint first?

YUP... sure can prime and then paint... just don't paint areas to be tiled, or at least do not enter into area to be tiled by more than an inch or two. Tiles do not adhere well to painted surfaces.

What walls do you want to paint? Certainly not the areas above the tub where the tiling will be done, right? There shouldn't be anything paintable there in the first place. You should not install tiles direct over wallboard in wet areas. Will the installer be installing a cement board first?

So I guess you're thinking of painting the adjoining walls? Not a good idea. Tiling involves water and sponging, fresh paint will come off if not allowed to cure a week or so.

Got to disagree Jaz I tile around fresh paint all the time with no trouble. Shouldn't be using enough water when cleaning grout to really mess with the paint. Sure sometimes you need a little touch up here and there but it beats the heck out of trying to get paint off grout and taping tile edges is a real pain.

You can disagree all you want.:rolleyes: It's not a good idea to wipe thinset mortar or grout off fresh paint. Tara wanted to paint tonight, and tilework will start in the am.

Would still like to know which walls are to be painted though. Touching up paint is one thing, bad tile work is another.

True, I agree that you should never apply tile over wallboard in a wet area .however most showers the tile does not go all the way from floor to ceiling for years they used green board above the tile. I agree in a perfect world the tile would completely enclose the shower. Its rarely done at least in my area mainly cause its more expensive for builders and remodeling customers don't really want it. They have come out with new paperless board which is still fairly new and has yet to be proven. I did miss the painting tonight then beginning in the am that might be a little tight time wise. I usually give the paint at least 24hrs to cure and always make sure its dry to the touch before beginning.
