I get so hungry at night and can often end up eating the same amount as I have already had for dinner! I always eat when I'm hungry and stop when I'm full and I'm not over weight I'm just curious how I can be this hungry

Maybe you're not really hungry. You just might be thirsty. Try drinking water and see if that makes a difference.

Chances are that night is the first time you've had to sit down all day, and the television is on, with ads for pizza and other food, or programmes with thin people eating, so you are more tempted. You could also be eating because you are bored.
Try drinking some fresh lemon juice in water, that tends to kill the taste of sweet things, so you are less likely to eat just for taste. I always find it interesting that when I've got a cold or been to the dentist, I don't eat, even when I'm actively hungry, because I know I won't taste the food properly. Most of the time, I'm quite willing to eat even if I'm not hungry, because I know the food will taste good.
